The Olympic Flame is a symbol and has several different meanings. It stands for the light of:
spirit
knowledge
life
and as a messenger of peace
A series of runners carry the torch from Olympia, Greece to the city where the games will be held. The last runner will carry the torch into the Olympic stadium and light the flame that will burn throughout the games. The flame is lit during the opening ceremony and then put out during the closing ceremony.
