The Summer and Winter Olympic Games bring thousands of the world's athletes together. The Olympic games begin with an opening ceremony that includes a parade. The athletes participate in this parade. An important part of the opening ceremonies involves the Olympic flame. A runner carries a torch with the Olypmic flame. This torch lights the flame that will burn during the games. Glendaal Opening Ceremonies
April 2, 2008 marked the opening ceremonies for Glendaal's third grade Olympic research project. Mrs. Brown, Mr. Olson and Mrs. Perry participated in a parade in the school library. Dressed as athletes and wearing Olympic medals, the teachers marched behind the student teacher as she carried a plastic torch representing the Olympic flame. The students clapped and cheered. Everyone participated in a discussion about the different sports that are part of the Olympic games. Ms. Byrne showed a short video in the computer lab about the history of the Olympic flame.

The Olympic flame begins every journey in Greece and then travels to the country hosting the Olympic Games. The Olympic flame has a special meaning.
